Alpha arrives!

“You’re on a winner here!”  “It was a great night!”  “The food was fabulous!”

Image    These were just some of the reactions from guests at our Sydney Alpha Invitation Dinner on Wednesday night.  The evening featured a delicious selection of pastas from local restauranteurs, Il Bolognese of Boronia Park.  Main course was followed by an entertaining presentation on whether Christianity is “Boring, Untrue and Irrelevant?”     Peppered with engaging humour and real life stories, Nicky Gumbel shared resounding testimonial and logical evidence from leading scientists and lawyers.  Critical moments included a light-hearted introduction considering the possibility of God leaving the church in frustration!
More serious was the key question, “What are you doing on earth?”  This ‘first order’ question was considered in the light of the searching experiences of celebrated individuals, such as Leo Tolstoy.  The conclusion was though-provoking: in spite of personal wealth, family and achievements, there remains an emptiness in life that only God can fill.
Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)  Nicky completed this introduction to the Alpha Course by commending Jesus as the answer to being lost, confused and empty in life.
We were all then invited to come along to the Alpha Course over the next 10 weeks to find out more together.  This will involve Dinners on Wednesday nights or Morning Teas on Thursdays and all are welcome!
